Angel Fire Trail Race

Angel Fire Endurance Run is an inaugrural event beginning and ending at The Lodge at Angel Fire Resort at Angel Fire, New Mexico and it will take place on June 30, 2012.  There will be a 50K, 50 Mile and 100 mile and it looks to be a challenging event with a good mix of single track trail, forest road and a short paved section.  I've read that this will be New Mexico's first 100 mile trail race?  And did I mention it's put on by Chisholm Deupree who has a great track record with putting on fun events.  He's also RD for 24 The Hard Way and Double Dirty Dozen.  The race will start at almost 9,000 feet and will climb up to over 10,000 at it's highest point.  Since I have never ran a race at high elevation I have NO idea what to expect.  It will probably be a slow race for me.

The Lodge at Angel Fire Resort is offering special rates for race participants and is opening their awesome looking zipline the day after the race!  Check out the YouTube video and the picture.  This will be a must..a reward for completing the 50k!  ; )

Yes...that tiny dot at the top is the person on the zipline.  weeeeee!

More Mt. Scott

In preparation for next months Grand Canyon R2R run, the trail group headed out to the Wichita Mountains again for some laps up and down Mt. Scott.  For any Oklahoma runners looking for some fun hill training, this is your place.  Just get there early to beat the car/motorcycle traffic going up & down the mountain.  We started running at 6:30 am and ran for about 1.5 hours before they opened the gates to cars.  We ran for another 1.5 hours after that, but the traffic was really light until the last 20 minutes or so and then started picking up.  It was a gorgeous day!  We finished up with a soul cleansing 6 mile run/hike on Dog Run Hollow trail.  The wildflowers were out in full force and it was another gorgeous day.  Not quite ready for Grand Canyon..but ready as I'll ever be I suppose!
